Wedding Wednesday: The Honeymoon, or let's run away to Santorini RIGHT NOW.

Tuesday, June 10, 2014

I've always been a big dreamer,
For better or for worse,
I always need to be planning the next trip, adventure or step in life.
Now that I've been rooted to the U.S. more than ever,
I have to quell the urge to pack up and go somewhere by planning my future.
It could be a weekend with Peter, or it could be my long-wanted venture to New Zealand,
It's the only thing that keeps me sane while I'm stuck stateside,
working towards this crazy goal to become a physician.
{it's also kind of why I started this blog.}

Anyways,
Lately, most of my planning has been for our honeymoon in Santorini
True, this role is traditionally relegated to the groom,
HOWEVER,
I find it strangely motivating to hunt down Santorini's best-kept secrets
I kind of see it as my reward for surviving the next 358 days of craziness :)
Anyways, Peter will ultimately plan everything out,
And he actually has a friend who can get us a great deal at a private apartment overlooking the caldera,
But I'm still having fun looking around for a few hidden gems.

So enough ranting from me-
Here's a few stunning spots and hotels that I've found so far!

1. Imerovigli

This one was a recommendation from my parents' friends. If you have ever been to/looked into traveling to Santorini, you know that the two main towns, Oia and Fira, are where most people tend to stay. Fira's a bit more touristy, but the truth is they both have incredible views and tons of different options at different price points for accomodation. I was told that this little village is more romantic and secluded, as you're less likely to get throngs of cruisers coming through. Plus you can rent scooters or take the bus to Oia and Fira, if you want to check them out (we'll definitely be visiting Oia.) This little villa looked incredibly quaint (and I find all white rooms with lots of sunlight incredible relaxing.)

The Grace Santorini has an amazing infinity pool- that view would be hard to say no to :)

2. Perivolas Hotel, Oia

I uncovered this one in 1000 Places to See Before You Die. {If the title of that book gives you anxiety, you're not alone- I actually hate it because it makes me feel like I will never get to see everything in that book! That is very distressing to me.}As far as romantic getaways, this is the cream of the crop- it boasts picture-perfect terraces, unique and gorgeous cave architecture, and locally handmade details. I'll just let the photos speak for themselves on this one...

sorry not sorry for the repeat pool shots. That is a pool, people.

Also, can you tell I'm obsessed with pools?

3. Armeni Villas

This hotel is a little less secluded, as it's in Oia, a main town, but the fancy-pants awesomeness is still to the max. My favorite part is probably the private pool in the Glafki suite. Yea, it kind of is all about the pools for me :) Plus, I'm not sure if there's anything I love more than a white room with light blue finishings.

I think that's enough travel porn for now!
I'm totally open to new suggestions if I've missed any.

P.S. for those who may want to do Santorini with kids or a more laid-back vibe,
Or just traveling around Greece in general,
Matt Barrett's Travel Guide to Santorini offers a lot of great hotels for more reasonable prices.
Volcano View Villas is supposed to be kid-friendly but still beautiful and comfortable.
My Godparents tuned me in to this guy's website,
and it's really detailed and easy to navigate for those who have never been to Greece before.
There's a little something for everyone :)
